Online Contests: rules, list of contests etc

1.      Online contests are announced as per the details at the table below.

a.      Nationals of Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Cabo Verde whether living in their respective countries or in India; as also Indian nationals living in these four countries (Senegal, the Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Cabo Verde) are welcome to join.

Mandatory Registration of contest entries:

2.      Please dance, sing, recite, play your favorite instrument, cook your signature dish, paint, sketch taking inspiration from the ‘Reference Video’ as at C2 in the table below, and register your entry at the form here (mandatory).

3.      Register your entry by the deadline (C3).

Social Media

4.      The registration form seeks that contest entry be high definition good video (preferably in landscape mode) recorded and uploaded on youtube, and, posted on your twitter / Facebook accounts, tagging @IndiaInSenegal.  Please note that some/ all the entries would be carried on Embassy’s social media (and thus those not comfortable with this must not send their entries).

a.      Please note further it is not necessary for the Embassy to carry all the contest entries on Embassy’s social media accounts.

Participation categories

5.      Following categories of participation are available:

a.      Contest category: For those who want to be ranked by jury members and also receive cash prize in case they win.

b.      Non-Contest: For those want to participate in the Embassy’s online events but do not want to be ranked. This applies to established and already recognized talents who may not be keen to receive the cash prize that the contest category participants qualify to.

c.      Sponsored: For those the Senegalese and other local groups that receive Grant-in-Aid from Government of India. Their entries do get ranked with the ’Contest’  category but do not get any cash prizes (as they are already sponsored by the Government of India).

Errors in the Contest entries

6.      For transparency, all the entries received across various contests may be seen at the link here.

7.      Embassy’s comments are included in the last column at the link at this link to enable participants check if there are any errors in / suggestions in respect of the entry made and decide if they want to resubmit new entries.

8.      Incomplete entries (e.g. those without the relevant video links on youtube) or dysfunctional links (e.g. on facebook / twitter) would not qualify as valid contest entries.

WhatsApp session

9.      All the participants in a contest may be invited to a WhatsApp conference session at 5 PM one day after the contest entry deadline, (=C3+1), when the winners would be announced; details of this WhatsApp session are here; please study them carefully to come prepared to the session.

10.   Attractive cash prizes (1st prize CF 50000, 2nd prize CFA 30000, 3rd prize CFA 20000, consolation prizes CFA 10000, motivation prize CFA 5000) would be announced (though one or all prizes may be cancelled in case of inadequate participation).

a.      Cultural groups and societies supported by the Embassy, if winning a contest, would only be entitled to a certificate of appreciation.

b.      Indians from Embassy of India in Dakar, or their families, if winning a contest, would be entitled to only a token prize of CFA 10000 or motivation prize of CFA 5000.

c.      Indian participants resident in India though are welcome to join in our online contest; however, unfortunately no cash prize can be awarded  given they are outside the jurisdiction of the Embassy of India in Dakar.

WhatsApp Session

Steps:

1.      A WhatsApp group ‘OnlineContestsByEoIDakar’ is created using the registered whatsapp contacts of all the participants and the jury members; please do participate.

2.      Please join in the brief, 30 second, WhatsApp video call, when initiated by the organizer (at 5 PM the day after the contest closes), and say hello.

3.      Choose randomly any number from 1-5 and send on the group.

4.      The selected random song (as also its video and lyrics) based on the number chosen randomly by the majority would be sent immediately. If there is no majority, Embassy would randomly pick a number.

5.      Use the random song (see the list here) as base / reference / inspiration and send an extempore video clip of not more than 60 second duration, covering:

a.      Your rendition of the dance, if you are a contestant in the dance category

b.      Your rendition of the song, if you are a contestant in the singing category

c.      Your rendition of the song on your favorite instrument, if you are a contestant in the instrumental category

d.      Your recital of the lyrics, if you are a contestant in the poetry recital category

e.      Your extempore cooking video based on whatever readily available material you have in your kitchen, if you are a contestant in the cookery category (please make sure you use the random song as background as you record your video)

f.       Your sketching video, showing us as you take your masterly strokes, if you are a contestant in the painting/sketching category (do also send the picture of your extempore sketching/ painting)  (please make sure you use the random song as background as you record your video)

6.      Please note: You do not have to use the whole song; but use it only as inspiration; we just need one minute of your video. You are welcome to google the lyrics, alternate dance renditions etc of the song for deciding quickly how  you want to use the song.

7.      Please ensure, as you do the above, that:

a.      You do not change your attire (throughout the WhatsApp / extempore recording session)

b.      You make your video  benefiting from the sunlight for best recording

c.      You record in whichever natural setting (home, road, street, market, park etc) that you may be in

d.      You whatsapp on the group your recorded video / sketches etc latest by 6 PM.

8.      That’s it!

9.      We will (1) use the random videos for non-commercial promotion on Embassy’s social medial channels (2) announce results shortly thereafter on this page.

Millets Cookery Contest- Rules (date of the contest yet to be finalized)

The contest is organized in celebration of and preparation of 2023, declared by the UN as the International Year of Millets.

1.      As above, please make the best video of your millets recipe and register.

2.      Your contest entry must be mainly around millets though supplementary items (like vegetable curry etc) may be added to make it holistic meal.

3.      As part of the registration, please do include the nutritional details of your dish at the ‘gist’ field of the registration form (mandatory).

4.      On 24 October 2021, during TirgangaSports (details here), all contestants would be asked to arrange sampling of their dish. Participants are welcome to bring extra quantity of their dish and sell (as part the TirangaSports festival being organized in celebration of Unity Day, birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India).

5.      The winners would be awarded on 24 October.

Those volunteering to be the jury members to assess the entries of the online contests are requested to add their contacts at the Google Contacts Form and also alert Embassy at the email amb.dakar@mea.gov.in

Certificates

Participants who are keen to receive certificates of their participation / winning in the online contest by the Embassy of India in Dakar may kindly request pol.dakar@mea.gov.in sending the following details:

-Full and correct name of the participant

-Scan of photo ID of the participant

-List of contests and results (with date, occasion, special recognition in the participation if any, e.g., 3rd prize, consolation prize etc)

The certificate would be prepared, after verification of facts, and the participant informed for collecting the certificate at an appropriate occasion (e.g. visiting the Embassy through prior appointment)
